Email marketing is alive and well and bringing in lots of money if you do it right. So, here are some tips to freshen things up, especially your newsletters.

You know how much time and effort it takes to write a newsletter or blogIf you’re watching your numbers and the numbers are moving in the wrong direction, here are four ideas to refresh your efforts and wake up your subscribers.

1. Do you know what your audience wants to read ?Ask them. Create a survey. Email a few people at a time. Better yet, surprise them and hop on the phone. If you’re writing content that’s not geared to their challenges, you’re wasting your time and resources.

2. What’s trending? Sometimes you’re so busy keeping your head above water that you don’t have time to read industry reports or follow influencers and hear what they have to say. Set aside at least an hour a week – even 15 minutes a day– to see what people are talking about. Stay current.

3. Look at the news.  What’s going on in the news is important to your audience because it could affect their business. Write about it, give your opinion and link to other expert sources. An even better idea is to mix it up and link to similar articles on your website – as long as they relate. Do you have an angle that’s unique and information your audience needs to know?  Tell them.

4. Check out your competition. What are they writing about? What’s popular in their network? You’ve already checked out what’s trending and what influencers are talking about. This will seal the deal. You are following your competition on social media, right?
